Quick Overview

I’m James Hanson. Everybody who knows me calls me Jamie.

I am a lawyer in Arizona. I practice construction law at a firm called Lang Thal King & Hanson. Here’s my official law-firm bio.

I worked as a lawyer at the Arizona Registrar of Contractors. Specifically, I was the ROC’s Chief Counsel.

As an Arizona attorney, I help people — both contractors and project owners — with anthing relating to the Arizona Registrar of Contractors or construction law more generally.

Chief Counsel of the Arizona Registrar of Contractors

There’s something special about my professional experience as an Arizona construction attorney:

From March 2015 to May 2017, I worked at the Arizona Registrar of Contractors (known as “the ROC”). I was the ROC’s chief counsel and the head of its legal department.

When I was at the Registrar of Contractors, these were some of my titles and responsiblities:

  • Chief Counsel: I advised the Director of the Registrar of Contractors and the heads of the departments about the law and ROC policy.
  • Assistant Director (Legal Department): While at the Registrar, I received the title Assistant Director. This reflected the reality that I and the other Assistant Directors were critical in helping the ROC operate. My department was the Legal Department, and so I was in charge of making sure that important legal functions were handled appropriately (for example, issuing citations and coordinating with the Office of Administrative Hearings).
  • Recovery Fund Supervisor: The Registrar of Contractors administers a fund for the benefit of anyone harmed by a licensed residential contractor. The Registrar receives and reviews claims from homeowners, and issues payments or denials. I was responsible for supervising that process and managing the Registrar’s employees who handled the Recovery Fund claims.

My Legal Practice as an Arizona Attorney

I do not work at the Arizona Registrar of Contractors anymore. In 2017, I returned to the private practice of law. I am at the firm Lang Thal King & Hanson.

Here are some of the areas in which I practice law:

  • Construction Law: Construction law covers anything that a contractor needs to deal with, and it also covers many of the problems that people might have with contractors.
  • Commercial Litigation: Commercial litigation covers any kind of dispute that a business might have with another business or a former employee, or disputes between owners of the business.
  • Administrative Law: Administative law covers any kind of issue that a person might have with a government agency. I am one of the two Administrative Law Certified Specialists in the state of Arizona.
